George Long’s mother instilled in him her love for language. He uses that love to create life-enriching stories for children and their parents to enjoy.
Pocketful of Dreams is the first book in the Daddy Always Says series. The text boxes featured in this book are designed with the dyslexic reader in mind. Although George struggled with dyslexia in his youth, he has learned to compensate for his learning disability.
He hopes this story encourages readers of all abilities to work hard and see their dreams comes true.
A dyslexic has a special gift to see things in a different but creative way. George has a dyslexic perspective, and although he finds it challenging, he also knows he’s in excellent company. When the famous late-night TV host Jay Leno publicly identified himself as dyslexic, it gave George the courage to be open about his own gift. He was further emboldened by the success of UK’s dyslexic business mogul Sir Richard Branson. History is rich with examples of dyslexics who made extraordinary contributions to society and culture: Leonardo da Vinci, Winston Churchill, Picasso, Albert Einstein, Walt Disney, Agatha Christie, Muhammad Ali, Henry Winkler, Whoopi Goldberg, Steven Spielberg…the list is long and impressive.
He’s also been encouraged by authors and educators alike:
“George, The world needs you! We need you! Never, never give up!”
-Harvey Hubble author and filmmaker: Dislecksia the Movie and the Book
“George you should say to other dyslexics, ‘I’m dyslexic – I wrote and produced this book – and so can you.’”
Dr. Gillian Barclay-Smith, Head Mistress of The Barclay School at Magnolia Farm
