Steven A. Coulter

Steve Coulter is a San Francisco based author who writes science fiction and fantasy as well as contemporary storytelling featuring fast paced action, exotic settings, nasty bad guys, reluctant heroes, and the audacity of love. With American politics in a dark time, he likes to feature LGBTQ+ protagonists and heroes. As someone who came of age in a small town, he believes it’s important for society to appreciate the complexity of LGBTQ+ lives, how they are just like everyone else and different too. Sometimes fiction is a great way to discover truths, to explore complicated issues. His work is enriched by his varied careers—soldier, teacher, journalist, state legislator, corporate executive, and library commissioner. He was a Lambda Literary Fellow in 2008 and 2013, later spending two years on the Board. He lives in San Francisco with his husband, Greg. They favor bittersweet chocolate.
