Tashana D. Howse

Tashana D. Howse, PhD is an assistant professor of mathematics education at Daytona State College. She has mathematical teaching experience ranging from in classroom public education to developing the teachers of tomorrow through preservice teacher education courses.

At Daytona State, Dr. Howse teaches mathematics and science methods courses for both elementary and secondary education majors. She is the coordinator of the mathematics tutoring practicum, in which both Dr. Howse and her students work closely with elementary teachers and their students to enhance mathematics learning experiences for students. Additionally, having extensive experience with NASA Education from her internship at the Kennedy Space Center, she is the NASA EPD Alliance Liaison for the college. Throughout the year, she organizes NASA Education preservice teacher workshops to promote the use of NASA content in both mathematics and science teaching.

Dr. Howse's research interests include culturally responsive teaching, student engagement in mathematical practices, the use of technology to enhance learning, and teacher content knowledge. To improve efforts in advancing the field of mathematics education, she has presented teaching ideas at local, state, and national conferences. Dr. Howse has also participated in an African-American Teacher Exchange Program, where she worked with Namibian teachers to enhance mathematics teaching. Additionally, she has coauthored journal articles within the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Research Council on Mathematics Learning.

Dr. Howse received both a bachelor and master of science in mathematics education from Florida State University and doctor of philosophy degree in mathematics education from the University of Central Florida.
