Kiera Lindsey

Dr Kiera Lindsey is an award-winning historian who has been enthusiastically exploring historical ideas and understandings of the past, via books and articles, radio and podcasts, film and television for over twenty years. Kiera first speculative biography, The Convict’s Daughter, was published with Allen & Unwin in 2016 and described as an ‘audacious and splendid’, ‘gloriously un-put-downable book’ which ‘fearlessly carves a path between history and fiction’. In 2021, Kiera co-edited a Routledge collection on Speculative Biography, which reflects upon the methods which can be used to ‘re-present’ those who might otherwise remain shadowy in the historical record. In 2023 Kiera published her second speculative biography Wild Love: The Ambitions of Adelaide Ironside, the first Australian artist to astonish the world, also with Allen & Unwin.

Kiera is also the History Advocate of South Australia, a twenty-first century revisioning of the State Historian role which is based at the History Trust of South Australia. In this capacity Kiera champions history in all its expressions and explorations while also serving as the state's principal spokesperson for South Australian history. Kiera is also a member of several editorial boards and history organisations. She lives in Adelaide with her husband, a First Nation archaeologist and their magnificent red heeler, Mungo Von Marshall. They all like eating, sleeping and rolling about in the grass.
