Julia Rohatyn

Julia Rohatyn ( a pen name selected to honor the memory of the author's parents) worked in the hotel business for many years and was a general manager for over twenty. Inspired by funny, mysterious, and weird things that happened in real hotels, she began to write in the same genre that she loved to read - whodunnits, not exactly cozy. One reader called them 'gentle mysteries'.

After retiring and after a brief stint in public office, she began to write as an indie author. She discovered that being retired does not mean having a lot of free time. She wishes that she had more time to write. Something like twenty-four extra hours a day would be nice.

Her first series was about Rebecca Bauer, a crime-solving hotel manager in the milieu she knows so well. The second features Betsy Connolly (a side-kick in the first series) who is now a neophyte detective.

A friend who is a diplomat from a European country regaled her with anecdotes that inspired 'The Detective and the Diplomat" now titled 'Shades of Light and Darkness'. The book was published at the end of May 2020.

The Corona virus and the accompanying lock downs were a blessing in disguise, allowing her to finish the Shades of Light and Darkness. She also began a new book about, what else, a Covid 19 mystery. A man died of Covid 19... or did he? This will be the third Betsy Connolly Mystery book.

She lives in a pastoral communal settlement outside of Jerusalem in Israel but usually writes about the United States where she grew up. The community, Neve Ilan, boasts several published writers including two mystery writers and two children's book authors. Julia has joined forces with one of them in 'Neve Ilan Books'.
