Caren Penland

With deep roots in the rolling hills of central Germany yet calling Texas home since 1995, Caren Penland is a regular world traveler and jack of all trades: a former reporter, a business-savvy entrepreneur, an avid skier and hiker, a marathoner, an artist, and an occasional guitar-playing hippie. It’s the writing, though, that feeds her soul.

Caren’s prose can best be described as contemporary sharp humor infused with bittersweet nostalgia. She navigates the tightrope between dramatic southern flare and European dry humor with ease. Caren published numerous newspaper articles for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and released three novels under the pen name, Kimberly LaFontaine. The challenge of independently producing a novel has been the most exciting writing adventure yet. The Poison of Life, coauthored with Elizabeth “Betsy” Parmer, is the result of talents and friendships combined (and more than a bit of wine).

Caren is lucky enough to have an incredibly supportive wife, Sarah, who encourages her writing shenanigans and contributes to the production process. They live in the quiet cultural district of Fort Worth, Texas.

Caren and Betsy’s forthcoming release will hit the market in late 2016.
