Tom Krengel

As the author and illustrator of seven picture books, I’ve found my happy place in whimsical storytelling. I’m drawn to themes that spark curiosity, celebrate kindness, and help kids see the best in themselves and others—all told through stories that are satisfying, engaging, and ideally, a little bit funny.

My books include When Pigs Fly, a concept book filled with humorous characters that introduce colors and counting; The Red Umbrella, a gentle tale of how one small act of kindness can ripple through a community; Brrr the Snowman, a magical zoo adventure about teamwork; Little Bear’s Great Big Day, in which a pair of teddy bears explore their world with wide-eyed wonder; Minnie the Little Chicago River Taxi, a brave, tiny boat who stands up to a bully and lends a helping hand; and Mrs. Grandy’s Old House, where a neighborhood’s many small kindnesses add up to one grand gift for a beloved neighbor.
