Lela Suttee

I was born in the small town of Pecos Texas to Virgil and Priscilla Suttee. My father was a driller for an oil company and my mother was a homemaker. I am the youngest of seven children. Our family is really close and we all live within a few hours of each other.

My parents loved antiques and eventually Mama owned her own antique shop. Often Daddy and Mama would take us kids on what they called junk hunts. We spent hours perusing junk shops, flea markets and antique shops, looking for a rare find. On occasion we even searched for old bottles and arrowheads at abandoned homesites.

My mother was the inspiration behind this book. She was so fascinated by old houses. When she would see one she would say”look at that old house, if houses could talk oh the stories they’d tell.” So when I became interested in writing, I decided that I would write a book with the house telling the story of those who lived within it’s walls.

My friend and mentor Mae Hoover says that all of us have a book in our head or on our heart. This book has been on my heart for over 25 years. I’m so glad to finally get it on paper. I hope you enjoy reading the stories as much as I did writing them.
