Mel Brown

Dr. Mel Brown has spent nearly 50 years of ministry helping himself and others reach their full potential in serving Christ. Forty-four of those years were served as Senior Pastor of Edgewood Baptist Church in Rock Island, Illinois where he established a highly acclaimed training program for pastors and missionaries.

The content of the two-year mentor-ship program resulted from pastors and missionaries sharing the challenges in their ministries and his own pastoral experiences. In spite of his eight years of study in liberal arts and theology, he felt inadequately prepared to successfully lead a growing thriving church. Consequently after completing a doctorate in counseling and developing practical materials in 45 key areas for ministry, he began mentoring recently graduated theology students.

As other ministers learned about these materials and saw the results of the training, he was often asked if he would make the content available to them. The Ministers Instruction Manual was written to satisfy that need.

Here are some of the comments reviewers have made to describe the manual: wish I had learned this years ago, condenses the most important aspects for improving your ministry, must read, great guide book, priceless information, super resource, practical insights that will help navigate the challenges of your ministry, all the things they didn't teach you in Bible college or seminary and one of only two minister's manuals you will ever need.

Dr. Brown recently added two additional books to his publications. The first, Hope and Help for the Cancer Patient: A Christian Perspective, resulted from his two-times battle with cancer. The book describes his personal journey through cancer treatments and includes the Biblical truths which enabled him to face those difficult times. It includes a detailed accounting of the Scripture's teaching about suffering, a series of inspirational stories about those who have been successfully treated for various kinds of cancer, a listing of Bible verses of comfort and encouragement, a profound message providing help for terminal patients and their families and a comprehensive listing of web sites for cancer patients. Responses to this book among those personally battling cancer have been unbelievably positive and gratifying. Many said they read it constantly during treatment and found great help and encouragement from its message.

The second title, How to Choose the Right Mate, A Guide to Choosing Wisely, was written for the singles in his church and in the circle of his family and friends. It provides the tools to evaluate their relationships and to know the most important predictors for relationship failure. It helps them understand the things which are most significant for a fulfilling and long-lasting relationship. The book has been used not only as a personal guide for individual singles but also as a study guide for single's groups.
