Jorge Saenz

Jorge Sáenz was born in Cajamarca (Peru). He studied Pure Mathematics at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (Lima, Peru), and at the University of Notre Dame (Indiana, USA), where he obtained his master's degree and PhD.

He also studied Mathematics Education at the Universidad Enrique Guzmán y Valle (Chosica, Peru), and at Teachers College, Columbia University (New York, USA).

His area of expertise was Differential Geometry, a field in which he was privileged to educate several generations of geometricians, lecturing in master's and doctoral programs. Nevertheless, his greatest satisfaction was always the training of students in early undergraduate courses, so he always remained engaged in the chairs of Calculus and Discrete Structures.

Professor Sáenz has taught at several universities in the Americas, including Columbia University (New York), the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and the University of Puerto Rico.

Jorge published his first book in 1975; since then, he has written more than a dozen mathematical titles, of which only a few have been formally published by the publishing house he founded, Editorial Hipotenusa.
