Mayra Sanchez

Mayra Sanchez was born and raised in New York City. She is the youngest of four children born to Puerto Rican parents and spent many joyous summers visiting family in Puerto Rico. From an early age she was exposed to hardships and in 2012, faced another life altering experience known as “Superstorm Sandy". The time she spent surrounded in darkness, loss, distress and isolation forced her to reach deep inside to find answers to lifelong questions. Through this deep contemplative process, she renewed her zeal for life, family, love and community. Among the rubble she found her voice, deep faith, healing and the power to begin writing a new chapter in her life. Mayra continues to live in Staten Island with her two daughters, dog, cat and turtle. She hopes to inspire others facing challenging circumstances.
