Darrell McGowan

Darrell McGowan has always been insatiably curious. He remembers spending innumerable summer nights as a child sleeping outside under the stars struck by a boundless sense of awe.

For someone like Darrell, the latter 20th century and beginning of the 21st has been the perfect time to be alive. The technological revolution has yielded one amazing advancement after the next! These days, Darrell takes full advantage of personal technology, rarely sits in front of his aging PC, and does most of his writing on a tablet that saves everything to the cloud.

Darrell is captivated by the questions many ignore as our society strives to extend human capability beyond the natural barriers of biology. We already implant chips in people's brains to restore or enhance diminished senses. It won't be long before we start implanting similar chips in healthy people's skulls to extend their natural capabilities. When that day comes, how will we determine if there is a point at which a technologically enhanced being is no longer human?

Darrell McGowan is a writer, an ordained Christian minister, a Buddhist practitioner, and a professional funeral celebrant, which are all expressions of his love for a good story.

Darrell was born and raised in a small Nevada farming community called Yerington, completed a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration at the University of Nevada, Reno, and a Master's degree in Divinity at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA.

After spending 35 years in California, Darrell returned to Northern Nevada were he enjoys backpacking, hiking, biking, photography, and more recently, kite boarding. He believes the best stories are true stories whether or not they narrate events that actually happened, and that is why he spends most of his time seeking creative ways to tell the truth.
