John Thomas McLarty

John McLarty is senior pastor at Green Lake Church of Seventh-day Adventists in Seattle. He is married to Karin Lundstrom McLarty.

After graduating from seminary at Andrews University in 1978, John spent his first dozen years of ministry in New York City. Later he worked as a writer for The Voice of Prophecy in Southern California before moving to Washington state in 1999.

John was editor of Adventist Today, 1998-2008, while also serving as a pastor. (Adventist Today is an independent journal focused on Adventist culture, politics, theology and spirituality.)

John's current focus of ministry is articulating Christian faith in a way that makes sense in a secular, urban environment. That "making sense" includes a vision of God that is both loving and lawful, a high regard for scholarship, science, and direct human experience, and consistent engagement in spiritual practices that nourish the soul.
