Ken Shiovitz

Prior to Illuminating the Void, Ken Shiovitz is the author of one previous book, Rules of the Universe. His essays and poems have appeared in numerous publications in-print and on-line. He has several published scientific papers on bird song, regarding species identification and patterns reflecting neural organization. His You-Tube channel contains poem-videos and commentary. One video, Coding Your Body Movements, demonstrates neural organization of the human signature, an amazingly complex parallel with bird song organization.

Ken’s thought has been influenced by a life of diverse experience. He has been a surgical scrub nurse, public health official, graduate student, post-doctoral researcher, teacher, real estate agent, real estate manager, poet, poetry venue host, lay religious leader, museum curator, model maker, and writer. Most importantly, he is the husband of Cathy Shiovitz, father to Dan and Stacey, and grandfather to Ezra, Elias, Caleb and Micah. He holds his extended family and friends as dear and important parts of his life

.

Ken’s thoughts can be unconventional, as he values concepts over factoids, and fiercely guards his right to think against social headwinds. This and a career in real estate have resulted in hardening of resolve to communicate in areas that others might find daunting. For readers with an open mind, his writing can be surprising, intriguing, and even transformative.
