Dropping out of high school and having a son at only 15 years old was the start to a very difficult life for Jodi. She chose to persevere when her son’s dad received a hefty prison sentence in the late 80’s for drug charges. Left with a 3-year-old, no education, addicted to drugs, and homeless, Jodi knew it was time to change her life around.
Going back to school to get her G.E.D. then going on to college completing a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. Jodi was always interested in the field of criminal justice however not to punish offenders but rather advocate for them.
Years later with two kids and a single mom Jodi met her husband John they have been married for over 10 years and have 2 children of their own. When her youngest was born she decided to go back to college to get her Master of Science in Higher Education with an emphasis on criminal justice. After teaching school for several years Jodi decided it was time to move on to college level teaching. Therefore, she chose the criminal justice subject as her concentration.
Then in 2013 her and her family’s life took a twist, her oldest son was arrested on federal charges, facing a possible life sentence. As her son awaited trial in a filthy jail, she began to reach out as a way to cope; she spoke to men and women in prison and began a Facebook support group for loved ones of prisoners. To date: Jodi writes to inmates all over the world and gives them a glimpse of hope as they serve their time “Locked Up”
