Brian and I drew upon our years of experience as teachers when we wrote Annwyn and the Owl King. As an Environmental Educator and Wildlife Rehabilitator, I was able to craft appealing, authentic animal characters with touches of personality drawn directly from my time spent with animals. Brian is a former English teacher who currently works as an English Language Arts curriculum specialist at SAFARI Montage. We have written Annwyn and the Owl King to appeal to a range of readers since the focus on nature, magic and animals in the context of an action/adventure/romance story allows us to capture the imagination of readers while simultaneously incorporating themes that are commonly addressed in adolescent fiction, such as the power of friendship, how to deal with loss, and perseverance in the face of insurmountable odds. I believe our book can find a niche with a younger teen audience as this book is able to mix in hints of dystopia, mystery, adventure, action, romance, and fantasy to create a fast-paced, thrilling adventure.
Our family, which includes our nature-loving and spirited 5-year-old son and our rambunctious pit bull mix, currently lives in Pennsylvania, where we spend our time adventuring on the Appalachian Trail, visiting the local mountain ranges, spending time organic gardening, searching for wildlife, and traveling to all the nearest beaches! We fill our days enjoying the wonderment of the outdoors, spending family time together, and of course, writing!
