Marc Vollenweider is Chief Strategist and Co-founder of Evalueserve, a global provider of research, analytics, and data management solutions. As a former partner at McKinsey & Company in Zurich and India, Marc developed a deep interest in the world of data analytics, particularly how human minds and smart machines can successfully complement each other. He saw the potential for companies to enhance productivity, shorten their time-to-market, improve quality, and gain new capabilities by leveraging mind+machine.
Referring to himself as a ‘self-aware nerd’, Marc is well aware of the communication challenges between the technologist nerds and the anti-nerd end users and decision makers in the global economy. With mind+machine, he is trying to bridge this communication gap by demystifying and simplifying the world of data analytics.
Marc and his wife Gabi have three grown children and one teenager—and a very balanced family in terms of the number of nerds and anti-nerds. His family is his true inspiration in life. Gabi runs a psychotherapy practice and has inspired this book’s section on the psychology of analytics, a topic nobody has written about before. Having lived in Switzerland, Austria, India, Singapore, the United States, and the United Kingdom, the whole family has developed a deep appreciation for other cultures. They also share a love of the mountains and the occasional game of golf.
