Dr. Juan Manuel Ahuactzin is the Research and Development director of Promagnus company. He has over 20 years’ experience driving top scientific and technological research projects, and over 10 years’ experience in systems analysis, design and industry development. He has a solid background as a teacher and mentor in higher education. He is experienced in Bayesian technology, data mining, machine learning, optimization techniques and geometric reasoning. Dr. Ahuactzin has extensive and applicable knowledge in subjects such as robotics, diagnosis and prediction under uncertainty, decision and risk analysis, health informatics and pattern matching. He is author and co-author of several journals articles and book chapters mainly in the areas of robotics and applied Bayesian reasoning. He received his Bachelor's degree in computer systems engineering from Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP) Mexico in 1989, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, France in 1991 and 1994, respectively. During 1994-95, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the robotics group at Simon Fraser University (SFU), Canada. He continued to be an associate researcher at SFU during the summers from 1996 to 1999. From 1995 to 1999 Dr. Ahuactzin had a permanent position in the Computer Systems Engineering Department at UDLAP. From January 2000 to 2005 he was a researcher at INRIA Rône-Alpes, France where he participated in several European research projects. Dr. Ahuactzin is cofounder of ProbaYes (spin-off of INRIA) in France and ProbaYes Americas in Mexico. At the first company he was the Research Director from 2005 to February 2011, at Probayes Americas (now Promagnus) he was CEO from 2010 to May 2015. From May 2015 to june 2020 he was the Innovation Program Manager at T-Systems Mexico. Dr. Ahuactzin is a passionate of academia; he is partial time course lecturer at Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM), campus Puebla and at Universidad de las Américas Puebla.
