Thomas V. Brown

Thomas V. Brown grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland, a Washington, D.C. suburb, and in 1964 graduated from the University of Maryland and married Sarah Culbertson. They remain partners after more than 50 years, and have two sons and a granddaughter.

In 1966, Tom joined IBM to begin a career in computers and technology that transported the young Brown family to California. After 18 plus years with IBM, Tom resigned to go to work for a succession of start-up and early-stage tech companies in California. He served as a corporate officer, building and managing technical support, sales and marketing departments, and managed subsidiaries in places as far apart as New Hampshire and Silicon Valley. He has served on the Board of Directors of several companies, and currently is a pro-bono consultant for 501 Commons in Seattle, working with local non-profit organizations.

Tom and Sarah live in active retirement on the Kitsap Peninsula in Washington State, and not far from their granddaughter, Ingrid, and her parents.

Tom is currently working on a second book about successful careers, with the focus on men and women who did not graduate from college, but achieved success nevertheless.
