Eddie Merkel was born in 1959 and raised in a sheltered world—until everything changed at 15, when his family moved to Angola for his father’s work with Gulf Oil. That leap led to boarding school in Switzerland and ignited a lifelong habit of asking questions, rejecting easy answers, and learning on his own terms.
A self-described autodidact with a streak of good-natured madness, Eddie has followed curiosity across continents, ideas, and vocations. With Mireille—his French Canadian wife and partner of over 40 years—he’s raised three kids, lived in an RV across North America, and eventually settled in western New York to be close to their grandchildren.
Eddie writes to make sense of things: the fleeting, the funny, the profound. You can find his work on Amazon and on his website.
