A native of Bristol, Virginia/Tennessee, William Van Huss has been active as an artist for over 25 years. He started printing and distributing cut-and-paste fanzines by mail and writing songs while still in high school. Over the years, his essays and poetry have been published in various magazines and journals.
William holds a B.A. in History from King University in Bristol. More recently, he has contributed to the preservation of local Appalachian history by serving as docent for regional museums, presenting a program on Bristol history with the local historical association, and contributing to the transcription of Earl Shaffer's first Appalachian Trail journal with the Smithsonian Digital Volunteer program.
His first book, Saucers Over Appalachia!, reflects his lifelong interest in the strange and unexplained while examining the 1973 UFO wave from the point of view of the region where he grew up.
William, and his wife Robin, are avid collectors of kitsch art such as velvet and "big eye" paintings. They also enjoy hiking, retro gaming, and creating art.
