David Mandy

David Mandy is Professor of Economics at the University of Missouri - Columbia and served as Department Chair 2005 - 2015.  He completed the PhD in economics from the University of Illinois in 1987 and was on the faculty at the University of Tennessee before coming to Missouri in 1994.  While at Tennessee, he directed the Tennessee Economic Forecasting Model and was heavily involved in policy analysis for the executive branch in Nashville.  His areas of specialty are industrial organization (and microeconomic theory generally) with particular emphasis on regulated industries, and econometrics.  His research has been published in some of the leading economics journals, including Econometrica, the Journal of Econometrics and the Journal of Economic Theory.

David serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Regulatory Economics.  He is a past Fulbright Fellow, member of the UM Research Board, and graduate of the University of Missouri President’s Academic Leadership Institute.  He currently teaches microeconomics at the PhD and advanced undergraduate levels, and has taught extensively in the MBA program at MU.

David lives in Columbia with his wife and two children.  He enjoys running, cycling and hiking. He has volunteered as a hikemaster at the YMCA of the Rockies -- Estes Park Center.  He is a referee for recreational, competitive youth, and interscholastic high school soccer and had served on the board of the Central Missouri Soccer Referees Association.
