Years ago, I suffered through a "wilderness" experience. I struggled to understand what God was doing. I lost my father, my ministry position, and my confidence. As it turned out, the Lord was narrowing my focus toward his priorities. He eliminated many distractions. He infused me with a love for his church and for the gospel. He gifted me a desire to see churches flourish.

That wilderness experience led me to recognize God's concern for his suffering church. I have studied and written about the persecuted church. My Ph.D. dissertation was a theology of persecution. The book "Christians in the Crosshairs" is a distillation of that dissertation. I wrote it in the least technical manner possible, while still offering what I believe are profound insights from the Scriptures.

I now serve as the Director of the Applied Theology program at California Baptist University. I am trying to stay disciplined in my work and my writing. My focus remains God--as he works in the lives of real people. Applied theology is about God in the lives of his people in the real world.

My wife and I have been married more than 30 years. We are very thankful you have visited this page and hope you will be encouraged by reading what I have been blessed to write.
