Troy Cox

Troy Cox has spent more than 20 years making yoga safer — as a teacher, a trainer of teachers, and an advocate for the highly sensitive student who never quite fit the crowded-studio mold.

Since 2011, he has trained over 850 yoga teachers through Safe Yoga School, the private one-on-one teacher training he founded on a simple conviction: excellent teachers aren't made in crowded cohorts under performance pressure. His safety-first approach blends two decades of yoga, personal training, and ergonomics into teaching that protects both the body and the nervous system.

Troy is the author of The Why of Yoga, the Safe Yoga School 200-hour and 300-hour training manuals, and Victorious!: Words to Survive By. Through his imprint, Little Lightning Publishing, he also published his late father's children's book, The Nature Gang.

After several years as a full-time caregiver for his father, Troy completed VA caregiver training and earned certification as a back-school ergonomic safety officer, and he is currently finishing OSHA 30-hour training. He brings a caretaker's patience and a safety officer's eye to everything he teaches.

Born in Virginia to military parents and raised in San Diego and Japan, Troy has worked as a personal trainer and health and wellness coach since 2004.
