Joe Towson

You have decided to break the shackles, to write a colorful chapter in your Life Story by becoming a triathlete—but how do you start? You start by setting your sights on a Sprint-Distance Triathlon, which is an eight-hundred yard swim, followed by a twelve-mile bike ride, followed by a three-mile run.

“But how do I go from zero to those distances?”

This book can be your roadmap. It is written for someone beginning exactly where Joe Towson began: middle-aged, out of shape, wanting to become a triathlete, but clueless about how to proceed.

In addition to scores of shorter races, Joe has completed eleven iron-distance triathlons (2.4 mile swim; 112 mile bike; 26.2 mile run), the Mississippi 50 (a fifty-mile trail run) and the 12.5 mile Swim Around Key West. When he began training—at age forty five—it took him seven months to build up to a one-mile run.
