Connie Du

"Although we see numerous breakthroughs in science and technology at our time, we are dismayed to see our society has turned into more violent and money-driven; and poverty is widespread. I think hard about the solutions. I believe in an education that can empower children with broad knowledge and beautiful ideas, an education that can help them understand more about themselves, others, and the entire world. I hope the next generation can change the world into a more sharing and peaceful place, no violence and poverty. That's the goals of my writings."

"I also see myself a messenger between the east and the west. I am enthusiastic to educate children to see the complex world with a multi-dimensional angle, and broaden views. I must write for children to make this world a better place."

Connie Du is a Canadian writer, who grew up in Guangzhou, the capital city of southern China. She began studying English at the age of eight, and she has loved writing in English ever since. She was introduced to Western literature by some of her super-talented middle-school friends in the early 1980s. She later fell in love with French and American literature as a teenager and became a big fan of Jane Austen, an English novelist who lived during the eighteenth to nineteenth centuries. After graduating from Guangdong University of Technology in 1993 with a major in electrical engineering, Du worked in various business sectors: consumer goods, industrial manufacturing, real estate, financial investments, services, and government. She set up her own events-planning service company in 2005. She is interested in governmental affairs and diplomacy, and had worked for diplomatic organization before following her heart by pursuing writing. Du wrote stories about a little boy, Bernard, who grows up in the northern suburb of Toronto.

Du moved to Canada in 2008. She now lives with her family in Willowdale, Toronto. Besides writing, Du has a passion for singing, dancing, swimming, and photography. She loves reading about people and culture, politics and diplomacy, management and economics, travel and foods, as well as medicines and health. She is also a fan of ballet, classical and contemporary music, classic movies and novels, as well as gardening.
