The author is a native of Ocala, Fl. where he hunted whitetail deer with a Savage 99EG during his teenage years. He served in the Navy, Marine Corps and Army Reserve retiring with the rank of Captain. He lived for many years in Southern California where he restored vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycles, wrote articles for several motorcycle magazines and worked in the film industry. He now resides in Boulder, Wyoming, with his wife, two horses and two cats. This is a great place to pursue his passion for hunting elk and antelope with his vintage Savage rifles and collecting and writing about the Savage family of rifles and his hunting experiences. He is a member of the Savage Grand Slam Club. To be a member the hunter has to have taken a big game animal with each of the four Savage brand calibers: 22 Savage Hi-Power; 250-3000 Savage; 303 Savage and 300 Savage. The author took antelope with the first two calibers, an elk with the 303 and a caribou with the 300.
He now plans to write another book on the Savage 99 family of rifles which will go into more detail about engraving, special features, uncataloged factory variations, ammunition and where ever else his research leads him.
