Paul Cranwell was born in Bristol. He was educated at Warwick School and at The University of Exeter where he read Economics.
After university he qualified as a Chartered Accountant and worked in accountancy for five years before going into banking. In a career that spanned twenty years, he worked in a range of roles including merchant, corporate banking and City regulation. Subsequently he became director of commercial banking for a private bank.
In 2013 he undertook a masters’ degree in creative writing at Oxford Brookes University where he started writing his first novel, A Material Harvest. Subsequently he has written three more novels. The Cold Light of Day published in 2021, The Twelfth Commandment in 2024 and forthcoming The Scattered Kingdom
