John Messenger

John Messenger is fond of allegory, and loves hiding movie and song titles in his prose. A fan of puzzles and games of all kinds, his character names always indicate some deeper connections not immediately apparent on the surface. He was named after a long line of Biblical Prophets, who have been called to tell extravagant societies of their doom, and imminent collapse, just before the catastrophe occurs.

He was created to tell a story, at a time when the story he told was unpopular, or might have been met with harsh criticism, were his prose not so deft as to disable all attacks through mere force of fact. It was said of him, when he was a young man that he could stair off into the distance for hours. His intense observations, led to a deep understanding of the world around him. And his particular temperament made it easier for him to express himself in the pages of a book, than in face to face interactions.

He continues to be gripped by the imagination. Unconcerned with what others think of his work, his deep connection to the collective sub-conscious, allows him to cut through people’s facades, and makes him aware of the motives in others, even when they themselves are unaware of why they may have done this, or that, or the other thing. His disposition is such that he feels a wrong done to another, as though it were done to him. He suffers with those who suffer, and toils with those who toil. His sense of justice makes him pursue what is right for all mankind. He sees the rich in their extravagant palaces, atop ancient hills where battles were fought and won by their ancestors, and he wonders why those with so much wealth and opulence do not do more to alleviate the pain of hunger, and the plague of homelessness that has spread across this earth. He sees the strings being pulled at the top of the pyramid, toppling the dominoes below. He dreams of a world where there are no faceless cogs in the machine, but where all can be celebrated for their unique differences, and valued for their contributions to a just and loving society. He challenges you to break the status quo.
