Susan Buffum

Susan Buffum is a medical secretary who writes as a hobby. She is best known for her annual Halloween and Christmas stories for friends and family. For years she had been encouraged to publish her stories and novels. In 2015, she began putting together collections of stories and self publishing them. Soon, some of her novels followed into print. She has garnered some five star ratings along her journey. When asked why she prefers to self publish, she replies, "I like to wear all the hats and have control over my own work in case I want to go back and tweak it. Major publishers are not likely to let you pull your book to fix a typo or a wrong word. Being my own publisher, book designer, editor, etc. allows me to have total creative control of my writing from start to finish." I do hope, one day, to be professionally published. That's the big dream. Susan is a full immersion writer who plunges the reader into a fully developed world with characters the reader will feel as if they've known their entire lives. She mixes a little romance, a little humor, a lot of action, and a dash of pathos to craft books the reader will find difficult to put down until the last page is turned. "My brother texted me after finishing The Subtlety of Light and Shadow to tell me that I had made him cry." To her, that was the greatest compliment anyone could have ever given her. "That demonstrates the power of the written word." She, and her daughter Kelly Buffum, who is also an author, are cofounders of the WhipCity Wordsmiths, a support and social group for authors and writers at all levels of their craft. The group is based in their hometown in western MA.
