Mark Larabee has been the managing editor for the Pacific Crest Trail Association since 2010. A nationally recognized journalist, he spent 25 years as a newspaper reporter and editor, most recently for The Oregonian newspaper in Portland, Oregon, where he received the Pulitzer Prize for breaking news in 2007. Along with many other journalists, he left the newspaper world in 2009 and found work with the Pacific Crest Trail Association, a cause dear to his heart. Larabee says he is happiest when he's outside. He loves backpacking, rock climbing, bicycling and mountaineering, among other pursuits. Born in Massachusetts in 1963, he lived as a child in Connecticut before moving with his family to Sicily, where his father worked for the U.S. Navy. Growing up he lived in Italy and San Diego, California. He attended college in Germany before completing his journalism degree at San Diego State University. Before becoming a writer and editor, Larabee delivered newspapers, worked in a carnival and as a concert roadie and waiter. He lives in Portland, Oregon, with his wife, Carol.
