After living in Texas, Alaska and Kansas due to my Dad’s military career, we finally retired to a small town nestled on the beautiful White River in Calico Rock, Arkansas in 1972. Growing up in the hills of Arkansas was quite an adventure as you were both safe from many outside influences, but yet sheltered from a world that did not resemble your own. But it was home, it was familiar, and I completely identified with Laura Ingles Wilder.
Outside of writing for my high school newspaper, The Pirate, my first actual published work was in the county paper, The White River Current, which is now known as The Current. I reported on local events, meetings, and public interest segments. Because the pay was not the greatest, my career journey veered in to all things business, and I was an Executive Analyst for one of the largest and oldest consulting firms in Chicago.
In 2014, as my Dad’s health deteriorated, and his days were obviously numbered, my career stood still. Then sorrow and grief became my constant companions, and once again I turned to writing for solace. Because we live in an age where phones are actually mini computers, my ability to write anywhere broadened my writing opportunities, and my passion for writing!
