Bo Sejer

Bo Sejer is the latest writer to come out of the great dark north: Denmark. His writing is distinctly nordic - dark, twisted and with a dry sense of humor, but with an american twist, courtesy of his many inspirations from books, movies and music.

Bo Sejer is a horror writer. He has a deep love for the movies of the 70's and for the schizofrenic mind, in which he builds his worlds. But he does not take himself very seriously: he writes with an easy-going nature and with a wonderful sense of humour, not afraid to make his characters or indeed himself look a little foolish.

He writes for a niche market, he says. Those who love to be scared on one page and laugh the next. Those who love to discover the many references in the book, and those who smile when their favourite band is mentioned. Those who enjoy the gritty darkness of a doom-metal band, but also love the child-like fascination of muscle cars and big breasted women in stoner-rock. Those who love Lovecraft and Exploitation Cinema equally.

He has primarily written books in danish in the past, and "To Those Who Are Asleep" is his first attempt at writing in a tongue that is not his native. This gives his book a fresh view of the english language, and a use of it you have not seen before.
