Julian has been working frontline in early years eduction since 1992.

In 2019, the Department for Education appointed him to lead on the update of Development Matters, the non-statutory guidance for the early years in England. Julian has independently written 'Working with the revised early years foundation stage: principles into practice' to give further support to practitioners.

The second edition of his book 'Successful Early Years Ofsted Inspections' is an Amazon best-seller.

Julian is also the co-author of the influential book 'Celebrating Children's Learning: assessment beyond levels in the early years'.
