Rik Arron

Rik Arron was born in Manchester in 1972. He has been writing professionally for over 20 years primarily for TV, Film and Radio but then began writing for children when he became a parent himself.

"My most special reading experiences still to this day are the ones formed in my childhood when I read Roald Dahl, Dr. Seuss, Shel Silverstein, and Spike Milligan. These authors created a sense of fun, magic, wonder and excitement that fuelled my imagination. When I became a parent myself I was hugely disappointed with the quality of the modern children's books and found myself, at first, reverting back to the books of my childhood before I then decided to make my own stories and poems up. I wanted to nurture the same reaction in my kids that I had experienced myself as a child. "

Rik's most recent book isn't a children's book. B7965 - A boy called Szmulek, A man named Sam is the true story of the year Rik spent with Holocaust survivor, Sam Gontarz. Almost accidentally stumbling into each others' lives, they went on a beautiful and powerful storytelling journey together; a story of love, courage, and friendship set against the darkness of the concentration camps of the Second World War.
