Denis Jay Klein

Denis Jay Klein grew up on the Jersey shore--a great place to grow up with the ocean so close. Now I live in Richmond, VA, where I teach Middle and High School math. Everyday after school (and summers), I carve out time for my novels, even if the energy is lacking (that's what Starbucks and Panera coffee are for!). I have lots of interests, and enjoy being active and living a healthy lifestyle (biking), getting back to the ocean when I can manage it (blading the board-walk), enjoy my daily therapy of driving my new Miata RF 'OCNVWS', reading commercial fiction constantly, and new and old movies. Being visual, I write and see all my books as films.

Having alternated between 3 series (with all "boats" rising together), I have decided to publish the first book of each series at the same time. So here are the 3 stories contributing to what I'm referring to as my first (and possibly only, if I know what's good for me) tri-series:

Something Olde has gone first--the typos have been fixed!, but the upload didn't take place in time before that 3 star rating :( . To write this story, I was inspired by how Bermuda was discovered/claimed (basically by accident), and the famous history involved with that occurrence: The infamous hurricane of 1609, the Sea Venture, John Cabot, Jamestown, the Virginia Company, St. George, and how all these events seemingly inspired Shakespeare to produce the Tempest. Well, if it was good enough for him, why not me? That Bermuda is beautiful and romantic and historic, just makes it, in my mind, the perfect backdrop for a current wedding adventure story. The first draft of the sequel, Something Knew, has just been finished, April, 2017. This sequel will likely be the fifth book out.

P.O.VEE has also launched. This novel involves the creation of the first android on the planet, VEE, circa 2040. This light sci-fi adventure story was inspired by all of Isaac Asimov's terrific robot books, that often centered themselves around a prescient bot and the psychology involved with such creations. In stories such as these, often the "new" invention is already functional at the beginning of the book. I thought it would be interesting to see how something new is developed from scratch, before, it is allowed to become the star in its own show. In this regard, I was also inspired by the classic book, Flowers for Algernon--that new things or processes don't always turn out the way we hope or expect. And that once the genie is let out of its bottle, things can't always be undone cleanly, or at all. The next three books of this series have already been completed, but have to be edited given that my writing has improved over the past 3 years. Book II, Re:VengeFull, will be the fourth book out, hence, the first sequel (I will turn to it shortly as soon as Something Olde is turned into a paperback and possibly an audiobook). Re:VengeFull is my personal favorite so far(if I'm forced to pick).

Space Vacations R US's will be out on Amazon in several weeks, April 2017. The basis for this young adult adventure story was given to me by my co-father-in-law (I just learned there was a term for this, who knew?), who helped countries launch large rockets into space. That such vacations are soon to go from science fiction to science fact, is...really cool, I believe. Being a YA series, it is dedicated to all my students and their peers. Several major trends in education have affected my protagonist choice(s): First, that we would like to see all our young people read more, given that no matter what you do in life, reading is involved. Secondly, in this regard, statistics bear out that boys of this age range tend to read less than girls. So I made the protagonist in SVRUS I a 13 yo boy. And thirdly, there is a current push to encourage just-as-capable girls to seek out careers in math and science. So in SVRUS II, the protagonist will transition over to his 17 yo sister, the future astronaut. Does this mean in SVRUS III, it will be a 50/50 split between the young stars? Maybe. I haven't gotten that far yet, but anticipate this will be the 6th book out.
