Dragons, dwarfs, mermaids, Vikings, Valkyries, pagan gods, giants. trolls and the undead all compete for attention in my head, and therefore live in the pages of my recently-completed trilogy, The Queens of Dragonia. I taught history and English and have deep interests in several areas, including ancient archaeology, mythology, world religions and the arts. The first trilogy is a cross between fantasy and horror, and draws from a diverse set of interests.
Not long ago, I was reading a wonderful book on Celtic History and happened across a chapter on pre-Arthurian Celtic mythology. In a wild rush, the images and characters and ancient stories started to tumble around in my head. It was all new to me. I was hooked, and The Queens of Dragonia was born.
My original college degree from UW was in Philosophy, because it afforded me the opportunity to take a lot of cross-listed courses and look outside one field. Upon graduation, I hung up a sign: "Philosophy Consultations. Cheap Rates. Inquire Within." Unfortunately, business wasn't very good, and those few who did stop in noticed rather quickly that I possessed no liquor license.
I did meet some dragons.
Artists, writers, musicians, creative folks of all ilks endlessly fascinate me, and I believe that. The urge to make something new is a big part of what makes us human.
