Kate Buckley

Kate Buckley is a ninth-generation Kentuckian who grew up listening to stories at her great-grandmother's knee. She did her undergraduate work at Transylvania University and the University of Kentucky, and holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Spalding University.

Kate's poems and creative nonfiction have appeared in variety of journals including: Bellingham Review, The Cafe Review, The Heartland Review, New Southerner, North American Review, Shenandoah, Slipstream and Spillway, and in numerous anthologies. She's the author of A Wild Region: Poems & Paintings (Moon Tide Press, 2008) and Follow Me Down (Tebot Bach, 2009).

Honors & awards include a Gabehart Prize for Imaginative Writing for poetry and North American Review's James Hearst Poetry Prize, selected by Molly Peacock. She is also a four-time Pushcart Prize nominee (poetry and creative nonfiction). Kate's short story, "The Gods of Flight," was short listed for the 2013 Bridport Prize.
