Tracy Dunn, former Girl Scout and proud Boy Scout leader, has created a world in outer space where children can venture forth with the help of some Greek mythological heroes, like Cyclops, Pegasus, the gorgons, and Arch Angels. The books, Alex & the Immortals and Alex & the Lost Souls, are the first two books of a trilogy for Middle Graders. Fundamental knowledge of structures in outer space can be found in the children's book, Matt & the Cosmic Rocket Ride, a bedtime story.
The Alex Turner trilogy has, at its hearts, themes of brotherly love, redemption, and tales of courage. It is an empowering read and educational, simultaneously. Although written for boys, girls are predominantly figured in the tales and not merely as damsels in distress, but also as the ones to be counted upon in a clutch.
Ms. Dunn graduated from the University of Kansas, practiced law for several years, before finding her inner voice. She has something of import to tell the world, should it choose to listen. She hopes children will love these adventure stories and will heed the moral teachings which underpin them. These books are not meant to be taken too seriously....or too lightly. They are meant to be, in the words of Goldilocks, just right.
