Peter Kenny, born in Lancashire and educated at Birmingham and Oxford Universities, was employed by the National Coal Board (later British Coal), first as a research scientist then as manager of various engineering departments. At the time of his early retirement he was British Coal's Reliability Manager. Since then he has taught mathematics and science subjects in colleges of further education, and as a private tutor.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, Member of the Institute of Materials,Minerals and Mining, a Chartered Physicist and a Chartered Engineer. He has published many technical papers and general interest articles. He holds the LAMDA Diploma in public speaking and taught public speaking for many years. His book, A Handbook of Public Speaking for Scientists and Engineers, has sold 11,000 copies and has been translated into Japanese and Polish. Though published originally in 1982, the book still sells.
His book on statistics, Decisions from Data, which was self-published, was withdrawn when Apress, New York, published it with additional material as Better Buisness Decisions from Data. His book, How Everything Came Aboout, was self published but turned out to be rather expensive, probably because of it being in colour. His latest book, Hard Problems: Evidence and Theories, has just become available.
