Marjorie Schuman

About the author

Marjorie Schuman, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst whose work integrates the contemplative wisdom of Buddhism with the clinical depth of relational psychoanalysis. She is the originator of Inquiring Deeply, an approach that explores how our experience of self and other shapes emotional pain and relational suffering, and how contemplative inquiry can open a path toward greater awareness, insight, and transformation.

In addition to her psychoanalytic training, Dr. Schuman brings over four decades of practice in Theravada Buddhist meditation. She is the author of Mindfulness-Informed Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis: Inquiring Deeply (Routledge, 2017) and Inquiring Deeply: Problems as a Path to Awareness (2023). She also writes the Inquiring Deeply Newsletter, offering thoughtful reflections on the intersection of meditation and psychotherapy.

Dr. Schuman lives in Santa Barbara, California and provides on-line clinical consultation in Inquiring Deeply and relational mindfulness.
