D. S. Kaplan

Briefly, I started as a teacher (history, social science, constitutional law, etc.) and loved it. Not wanting to limit my obituary to one defining role, I continued to inform, teach, and write--articles and reviews in shopper’s guides, content for advertising, and marketing collateral. Clients liked the ads so much in my publications that they asked me to take over their advertising. So I started full-service advertising agency. For 10 years, I wrote all the copy, directed the creative, developed and produced TV and radio ads.

I’ve always been a reader as well as a writer. When I realized how much relaxation I derived from reading mystery, suspense, and the like, I dove into the genre with the The Devil’s Jury. I liked the lead characters so much that I followed that with TEO: Thief Executive Officer. I’m working on my third title, Thin the Herd—same lead characters, different situations.

A major hobby is jazz and playing jazz guitar. My other interests include movies, cinema history, hiking, sports, biography, Tai Chi, hot sauce, chess, bourbon, Italian, Spanish, (a little Russian, Hebrew, Latin), audio, sports, and more—all of which are surpassed by my family and grandchildren.
