Hello! I'm on a mission to enable researchers to take the next career step positively and proactively. Harnessing my 30+ years (gulp!) in and around Higher Education – from physicist to training business owner – I speak, write and train on all things researcher development. My favourite soapboxes include women’s development in Universities and encouraging researchers to investigate all things enterprising. I bring creativity, empathy and usually a large coffee to my work. I have named my coffee machine - Jacob.
Despite choosing physics because you didn't have to write I have found myself enjoying the writing process. Following on from What Every Postdoc Needs to Know, I published The UNIque Guide for Women: Confidently embracing your career in research and beyond. Taking the successful cohort course and making the materials more widely available.
Leaving Academia: ditch the blanket, take the skills is the latest 'baby' in the fold. This short but powerful book resonates with those thinking about their careers - not just in academia. Written alongside the rest of my book cohort - the very best way to write a book.
I live near Cambridge with my family, two house rabbits called Frodo and Gimli and a flock of mad chickens (the latter dilute the house of boy - three sons and a husband - a little bit!). Very much the house of nerd! When I'm not reading development books to feed into my work, I can be found reading sci fi and fantasy.
