Sharon Bowles

Sharon Bowles was born in Jamaica, Queens in New York City. She has been writing in one form or another for practically her entire adult life. After graduating from Queens College with a degree in French Literature, she moved to rural Arkansas. After being fired as a waitress from a local truck stop, she was hired by a countywide newspaper as a reporter, later becoming its editor.

After the newspaper was sold, she moved to Little Rock where she became the Legislative Information Officer for the Arkansas Senate under the administration of then-governor David Pryor. She wrote speeches for the senators, summarized the new bills that were passed, and published educational material on how a bill becomes a law.

She later filled the position of Media Specialist for the Governor’s Office of Voluntary Citizen Participation under the administration of Bill Clinton, writing a monthly statewide journal highlighting volunteerism in the state.

It was only when she started her own freelance writing business that she could devote time to her passion: animals and their conservation. As a docent of the Little Rock Zoo, she handles everything from snakes and bearded dragons to opossums, ferrets and birds of prey. She hopes to travel soon to the Galápagos Islands.

"Bobby the Blue-Footed Booby Gets Bullied" is her first book.
