Unlike Dugan Byrnes in "The Pismo Calamity," I don't spend a lot of time in Harry's Night Club & Beach Bar. I do, however, share his appreciation for good beer, music and motorcycles. Having written a number of books on motorcycling, which produced scant income but plenty of fun, intriguing characters and engaging travels, I did incorporate some of that experience in the novel.

The motorcycle sport continues as an abiding attraction in my senior years, and I contribute news and feature stories to the website RideApart.com. A sequel to "The Pismo Calamity" is in the formative stage, although the screenplay for the existing book has priority, convinced as I am that it will make a swell movie. Have yet to hear from either Steven Spielberg or James Cameron, but surely it's only a matter of time.

I do owe considerable credit to Mike McCarthy of San Luis Obispo for the giant clam idea, and to graphics guru Brian Lawler for his steadfast work in putting my typing into publishable form. And to my wife Bronwyn for everything else.
