Carli Kalinowski

Carli Kalinowski, author and illustrator. Carli was born in 1970 and grew up in the Rhine-Main area in Germany. As a child Carli already was very creative. She drew a lot and fled to her own day dreams during class. There she developed a lot of different stories about animals and human beings. It was only a matter of time until her fantasies were written down and painted to let them come to reality.

Carli mainly focuses on lovely and humorous, mostly funny stories about animals and experiences with or without humans. Therein fantasy mixes with real facts. And therefore she never makes fun of animals or humanizes them. In her books there is always a bit of scientific background knowledge on the theme present. The stories should arouse interest also for the smallest kinds of life forms. The animal names have there origin within the Latin description of the corresponding species.

Carli herself is afraid of spiders. Until the very day when she saw a small Daddy Long-Legs which was desperately trying to free himself from a spider web. Carli was courageous enough to help him and she directly started to get involved into the field. Her interest arouse when she realized that Daddy Long-Legs themselves can´t make any spider webs. The happy and adventurous stories about the small Daddy Long-Legs OPILIO are a mixture of invented and fact-based events.

Carli also draws and paints very large pictures on canvas in street art style and makes collages.

Right now Carli is working on the third part of the OPILIO series.
