Liz Gilmore Williams

Liz Gilmore Williams placed as one of two Finalists in the genre of military history in the 2018 International Book Awards for No Ordinary Soldier: My Father's Two Wars. She worked as a writer and editor for more than 20 years in Washington, D.C., for two offices of the U.S. Congress and other organizations. Her essay, “April Love,” won an award in 2014 for creative nonfiction from the Virginia Writers Club and was published by the Indiana Voice Journal in February 2015. That and other essays have been published in online literary magazines, including The Pettigru Review and Catfish Stew. Others of her articles have appeared in Living (@Sun City Carolina Lakes), an award-winning magazine. No Ordinary Soldier: My Father's Two Wars is her first book. Aside from the book's WW II story, because Liz and her parents hail from Pennsylvania, the book has regional interest for the war on the home front in that state. As a former speaker for South Carolina’s Humanities Out Loud Program, Liz spoke for meetings of organizations that promote discussion about human values, traditions, and cultures. She is available to speak at your event on the war in the Central Pacific.

Liz enjoys interviewing people who’ve had a front-row seat to history and researching the historical context of their experiences. She received an MA in American studies from the University of Maryland. She lives in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
