John M. L. Brown

John M. L. Brown was born and brought up in Crittenden County, Kentucky. He earned his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University (1970), served in the U.S. Navy (1970-1974), and received his law degree from the Vanderbilt University School of law (1977). He has been a trial lawyer in Nashville for the past 40 years, frequently representing police officers in use-of-force litigation. He was for many years a respected firearms instructor in the Middle Tennessee area, and he maintains a lively interest in weapons and weaponcraft.

"The Kentucky Way" is his first book. He spent about 15 years tweaking it before he finally kicked it out of the nest. The book is set in Crittenden County in the 1930s and 40s. Writing the book was a labor of love for the county and the people who live there. The main characters are, however, totally fictional.

Mr. Brown is married to Faye McConnell Brown, also a Crittenden County native.
