Stacy L. Eldred

Stacy Eldred searched for years to find good books and resources for her deaf/hard-of-hearing daughter Alex and her friends. After teaching sign language to toddlers and preschoolers for over 10 years, she decided it was time to create a fun, easy, instructive and interactive way for teachers and parents to teach SEE (Signing Exact English) to hearing and non-hearing children. Thus Emma and Egor were born.

It started with a single book, Emma and Egor Learn to Sign Their Shapes and Colors, which was published in 2008 and used for teaching sign language in preschools in the Louisville, Kentucky area. This was followed by 3 more books, Emma and Egor Learn to Sign Their ABC's, Emma and Egor Learn to Sign Numbers 123 and Emma and Egor Get Ready for School.

Just as Stacy was hitting her stride, her own two young children in preschool, her husband was killed and Emma and Egor languished.

Fast-forward to 2017, her young children are now teenagers, her eldest daughter is established in her career and Alex, who inspired the Emma and Egor series, is at university. This gave Stacy a bit of breathing room to dust-off her dream of making sign language available to ALL children. She found a new illustrator, Lucia Benito and created new versions of the first four books; Emma and Egor Learn to Sign Their ABC's, Emma and Egor Learn to Sign Numbers, Emma and Egor Learn to Sign Shapes and Colors and Get Ready for School and created five new books; First Words Book 1, First Words Book 2, What Day is It? What is the Weather Like Today? How Are You Feeling? with two more books under development.

Stacy has also developed a supplemental, inclusive sign language curriculum with the Emma and Egor books at its core. The Emma and Egor sign language curriculum is Simple to Learn and Easy to Teach and is designed for ALL children. Look for these books to be available in Spanish and sign very soon.

Stacy resides in Northern Virginia and had been developing her sign language skills for 20+ years. Her passion is educating and nurturing the minds of children all over the world. It is her goal to reach as many people as possible through the Emma & Egor.
