KEITH WARNER HALL

My first book "Steelton A Novel" started out as a short story. My imagination was fueled by the powerful sense of place that has never left me. I grew up on Steelton's West Side and all of my family worked at the steel mill (I did too during college summers). It was a neighborhood of immigrants from across the Atlantic and the American South. People worked hard and most of them tried to do what was right, but they weren't afraid to exchange favors or to bend the rules to beat the system if they could. In the mid 1950's, when my story occurs, many of the homeowners were children of the depression. They all remembered how you had to use every trick in the book just to survive. My saintly Grandmother, Mary, would wait until the very last hour on Election Day for the knock on the door, because she knew her vote was then worth a dollar more from the politicians than it would have fetched earlier that morning.

I was lucky enough to be the first in my family to go to college. I worked in big corporations and then had my own consulting business for more than twenty years.

I now live in Raleigh North Carolina with my wife of 45 years, Janet, and our latest "best dog in the world" Jasper.
